    On Wednesday 6th March Years R, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 walked to St James’ Church to take part in our Ash Wednesday service led by Reverend Thorniley. Thank you to all parents/carers who attended.

    We hosted a Scholastic Book Fair in school this week. Children had the opportunity to purchase a book and use their World Book Day Token. Thank you to everyone who supported this. We look forward to buying some new books for our library with the commission.

    On Friday, our theme for World Book Day was 'Elmer'. The children were asked to come into school dressed in bright colours. All classes read the story of Elmer and participated in different activities throughout the day, some of which included painting, cooking and film making.

    On Monday 25th February the whole school celebrated Salvation day. Salvation focuses on the part of the Bible where Christians believe Jesus sacrificed himself for the people's sins. Therefore each class explored the Easter story and spent the day carrying out different activities based on it including the Last Supper, Good Friday and the resurrection. Years 1-5 also took part in a fantastic dance workshop with Zoe and Holly from Springs Dance Company where they acted out parts of the Easter story through dance.

    Tuesday 26th February was Multicultural Day. Our focus was on Tanzania in line with our charity work and toy sale. We invited John and Fran (who have visited Tanzania) in to speak to each class about Tanzania and the charity work that they do to give the children a great understanding of the culture of the country. The children loved looking at their images and hearing their stories. They even had the chance to learn some Swahili words and phrases. In class, children all carried out various activities including creating fact files, using technology to present information and even making Tanzanian houses!

    Thank you to everyone who kindly donated items for our toy sale held this week. We raised a fabulous £315.13 which will be used to purchase footballs to send to the children in Tanzania as well as sponsoring one child to attend primary school for one year – we will share more details soon.  The footballs will be sent in a parcel along with the football shirts you have so generously sent into school, we know the children there will be thrilled to receive them!

    On Wednesday 27th February, EYFS and KS1 took part in our half termly Sports Enrichment Days. They practised their street dance skills with Mr Bennett in the morning, showing off their best dance moves (including the teachers!). During the afternoon, each class competed against each other in mini dodgeball games on the playground in the beautiful sunshine.

    We welcomed Mr Gareth Hughes from Severn Arts into school on Friday who led a fabulous drumming day for all children to experience. A huge thank you to the PTFA who have funded this wonderful event.

    Year 1 parents were invited into the classroom to view all the wonderful London landmark models made by the children - thank you to everyone for their support with this project.

    We were joined by parents of Year 1 and Year 2 for a Learn Its Workshop on Thursday afternoon where they made times tables games with the children.

    On Wednesday our Year 5 children left for their 3-day residential visit to Kingswood Outdoor Centre in Wolverhampton. The children have had a fabulous time taking part in outdoor and adventurous activities - we are looking forward to hearing all about their exciting experience when they return today. Special thanks go to Mrs Enstone, Miss Boers and Mrs Sale who have accompanied the children on their trip.

    We hope everyone has a lovely half-term break and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 25th February.

    Many thanks to the volunteers who very kindly offered to help Mr Parry wheelbarrow bark into the Nursery area on Monday - it looks great, thank you so much!

     

    On Tuesday, Safer Internet Day was celebrated globally with the theme of 'Together for a Better Internet'.
    Children in classes Reception to Year Five all carried out activities to support their understanding of staying safe online.
    A flyer was emailed to all families with suggested questions to help parents/carers start a conversation with their child about Online Safety.
     

    Reception class visited Evesham library on Wednesday afternoon. They had a tour of the library and got chance to choose books. Reception children behaved brilliantly.

     

    Reception and Nursery enjoyed a together day learning about Chinese new year. They tasted Chinese food, made dragon shakers, lanterns and had chance to explore the nursery and reception environment. A fabulous morning was had by all!

     

    On Thursday Year Two went to the Black Country Museum as we have been learning about the Victorians. The children went inside Victorian homes and found out how life has changed. We also did a school workshop and wrote on slate with chalk.

     

    Year Three enjoyed a fantastic trip to Bishops Wood today. We took part in lots of fun activities including cave painting, roundhouse making and hunting.

     

    We are looking forward to seeing children at the discos tonight! Many thanks to the PTFA for organising this event.

    Mrs Thorp, our Home School Link, held a drop-in session on Monday morning - thank you to those parents who came along for a coffee and a chat. 

    Halfords store in Evesham have very kindly donated twelve helmets for our Nursery and Reception children to use when they are riding their tricycles. We are always talking to the children about how we keep safe and wearing helmets is an important part of safety. We are very grateful for the support of Halfords in providing this equipment.

    We wish to inform parents/carers that Tesco UES has now changed to My Clothing.

    Mrs Fishbourne and Reverend Thorniley met with the Sunshine Group this week to discuss all the new ideas they have been trying out - see our Newsletter for full details.

    Today we had a special visit from Mr Nigel Huddleston MP. Mr Huddleston was given a grand tour of the school by our very own Prime Minster and Deputy Prime Minister, Ethan and Rhys. This was followed by a fabulous Question and Answer session with our Pupil Parliament Ministers.

    We welcomed all children back to school after the Christmas break.

    The children took part in a PSHE day on Wednesday where each class looked at friendship and companionship.

    The whole school enjoyed an Art day on Thursday. Each class was assigned an artist to find out more about. Nursery and Reception looked at Paul Klee, Year One looked at Kandinsky, Year Two looked at Romero Britto, Year Three looked at Andy Warhol, Year Four looked at Joan Miro and Year Five looked at Picasso. It was fantastic to see all the fabulous work that went on throughout the school across the day. Not only were the children replicating a piece of art in the style of their artist, they also found out about the history of their artist. Phoebe from Reception said she 'loved being an artist for the day'. Well done on some beautiful pieces of art everyone!

    Year 4 began their violin lessons again on Monday with Mrs Davies from Severn Arts.

    Music lessons also started this week. Mr Blackman is teaching guitar on Tuesdays and Mr Telford is teaching recorder, flute, cornet and keyboard on Fridays. Please remind children to bring in their instruments/music each week.

    We welcomed Reverend Thorniley and his Open the Book Team into school on Wednesday morning.

    On Wednesday Year 5 visited the Almonry Museum in Evesham to learn more about Simon De Montfort and the Battle of Evesham. We had a great time looking at all of the artefacts, walking to Abbey Park to see where people believe Simon De Montfort was buried, learning about heraldry and some of us even had the chance to dress up as a knight! Lucy said her favourite part was seeing Simon De Montfort's grave and Tamsin loved all of the artefacts.

    Year 3 were excited to have their first swimming lesson yesterday. Lessons will be held each Thursday until 28th March.

    We were joined by Mr Stansbie from Worcestershire County Council this morning who led pedestrian training for Years 1 to 4. We wish to thank Mr Stansbie and all the parents/carers who braved the cold and came to help Year 2 and Year 4 with their practical training around the village.

    EYFS and KS1 children were superb in their Christmas production of 'Hey Ewe!'. We hope you all enjoyed the performance and thank you for your kind donations for the Toilet Twinning Project - you raised a total of £267.14! This enables us to twin with four toilet projects. More details will be given in the new year.

    On Wednesday the whole school travelled to the Swan Theatre in Worcester to see Maid Marian and the Merrymen. The children behaved brilliantly and really joined in with the fun. Thank you to Tesco for supplying us with chocolate biscuits at the interval!

    The children were served a traditional Christmas dinner yesterday that went down a treat! Thank you to Class Catering for preparing and cooking a delicious roast. In the afternoon we were joined by a very special visitor! With the help of his elves, Father Christmas gave all the children a gift to open at home.

    KS2 sang beautifully at their Christmas Carol Concert at St James' Church last night - thank you to all those parents who joined us.

    Today we said goodbye to Laura from Class Catering - we wish her well in her new job.

    Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year - we look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 8th January 2019.

    On Monday afternoon we held our music concert in the school hall. The children all performed superbly. Thank you to all our music teachers - Mrs Davies, Mr Telford, Mr Black and Mrs Hemming. 

    Reception and Nursery enjoyed a fun filled Christmas celebration together as they opened the doors and explored many Christmas activities. The true meaning of Christmas was read by Reverend Thorniley. 

    Nursery would like to thank Harvey Bears for a magical Christmas afternoon on the 12th December, packed full of

    sparkle and glitter.

    Christmas play rehearsals for Early Years and KS1 are going really well - the children are looking forward to performing this year's production 'Hey Ewe!'. The costumes look wonderful - thank you to everyone who has brought them in.

    On Monday we walked to St James' Church for our Advent Service. We have a lovely Mary and Joseph and other traditional characters that love to go on a journey during Advent just like hundreds of years ago when Mary and Joseph completed their journey to Bethlehem.

    If you would like to take them home with you for a night, and record their journey and visit with you, please contact the office and we will add you to the list.

    Mary and Joseph will then be taken to St James’ Church as part of the KS2 Christmas Carol evening on Thursday 20th December.

    Reception class went on a trip to Smart Trees on Tuesday. They had a fantastic time, visiting Father Christmas, orienteering around the Christmas trees and searching for the reindeers. The trip was magical and the children loved every minute. When asked, ‘What was your favourite thing?’ Harrison said “I just can’t choose one thing as I loved it all”.  Thank you to our parent helpers for supporting such a fantastic day out.

    Thank you to all parents/carers who joined us on Wednesday to share our reading comprehension work in Years 3, 4 and 5. We hope you enjoyed learning how we improve our reading and comprehension skills.

    Year 1 visited St James' Church yesterday to reinforce our learning of why does Christmas matter to Christians.

    Our netball team took part in a match against Bengeworth Academy after school yesterday. Although we didn't win our team thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Thank you to Miss Beaver for organising this.

    Key stage 1 and some of Reception class enjoyed a special Art morning today. The children based their art around a book called Cuddly Dudley, all about a penguin who learns that working with friends is much more fun than working all by himself.

    During the day the children got the opportunity to work with others from different year groups to make their Art. We enjoyed using water colours, finger painting and paper craft to make our penguins. "I love art, I wish we could do art every day" said Sephi
