We welcomed Debra from the Freshwater Theatre Company into school on Thursday. Debra led an Early Years’ Story Hunt for our Reception and Nursery class.

This opportunity was to enhance our current theme of Traditional Tales and to develop a love of storytelling which can support communication, language and literacy development. The children had a wonderful time picking up clues around the hall from different locations like a seaside, hillside and cave. Thank you to the PTFA who very kindly funded this workshop for us.

Sports Challenge after school clubs started this week. Mr Bennett is running mini football for Reception and Years 1-2 on Mondays, Hockey club for Years 2-5 on Tuesdays and Football club for years 3-5 on Thursdays.

On Monday Year 5 went to the Almonry museum to find out about the Battle of Evesham.

The children started off by learning lots about why the battle happened and where in Evesham it took place.  They also learnt how knights prepared for battle; they even got to try on some of the armour!

The children were able to visit St Laurence’s church where there is a stained glass window of Simon De Montfort.  Everyone had a great morning and returned to school where the children did some fantastic writing as if they were knights at the battle.

On Wednesday Reverend Thorniley led the first Open the Book Assembly for this term. Many thanks to Reverend Thorniley and his team for their splendid story telling.

We were very pleased to welcome all the children back to school last week. We hope you have all had a lovely break and we wish you a very Happy New Year.

Last Friday all classes took part in an Online Safety morning. Reception Class listened to a story all about Digiduck and they joined in with Sid’s music video from the Thinkuknow website. Year 1 learnt about sharing information and how it can go wrong. Year 2 made an Online Safety game with snakes and ladders. Year 3 found out there are so many Online Safety rules. They learned how to make a tally chart and, although all rules are important, they had to choose the three they felt were most important. Year 4 made a piccollage of ways you can communicate online and discussed how communication can go wrong. They also went on the Thinkuknow online café. Year 5 learnt how to be ‘SMART’ online. To be SMART you need to be S- stay safe M-don’t meet up A-accepting files R-reliable T-tell someone.

Please can you send any books (in a good condition) into school. When they have enough books they will set a date for a book fair. Thank you.
