Harvington C of E First and Nursery School

‘Together we love, learn and grow’

Music

Music is so important to us at Harvington CE First and Nursery School. As well as our comprehensive music curriculum we also aim to enrich the children's experiences with other music activities.

Over hundred children receive instrumental tuition, either delivered by peripatetic music teachers or class teachers themselves. We offer individual and small group music lessons in keyboard, singing, violin, guitar and ukulele. All of Year Two learn the recorder, Year Three learn the fife and Year Four learn the cornet. We also have a brass group, choir and offer handbells as an extra club. The children are encouraged to participate in termly music concerts learning the skills of performance and presenting. They really are fabulous when they perform and enjoy announcing their performance, bowing at the end and receiving tumultuous applause!

The children enjoy listening to music from different periods of history moving from medieval music, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary. They also listen to music from different countries around the world. Their favourite is music from Greece because it makes them dance!

Children also learn and sing songs in our Key Stage One Nativity performance. Key Stage Two children learn and sing carols as part of the Christmas Church Carol evening.
