‘Together we love, learn and grow’

Swimming

At Harvington CE First and Nursery School we recognise the great importance of learning to swim and the impact this can have on children's lives. Raising the attainment of our children in swimming is a school priority, not just to achieve this important skill but also for their health and well being.

During the children's time with us, they will all have the opportunity to take part in an extensive programme of swimming lessons to enable them to meet the end of KS2 National Curriculum requirements.  Children in Years Three, Four and Five attend swimming lessons on rotation at Evesham Leisure Centre. They receive a thirty minute swimming lesson for the whole term. This lesson is taught by a qualified swimming teacher as well as the class staff.

By the end of KS2 children should be able to:

Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

Use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]

Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

2020-2021: 100% of Year Five children were able to swim 25 metres.

2021-2022: 100% of Year Five children were able to swim 25 metres.
