What is the PTFA?
What is the PTFA and what does it do?
The Parents, Teachers and Friends Association – the PTFA – is a long standing home-school association. It is made up of parents whose children attend the school and others who would like to support us. All parents and carers automatically join this body when their child joins the school.
The organisation has two principal aims:
- to raise additional funds for the school, to supplement the school budget and provide more for the children
- to strengthen the school community by organising events where all members of the community can meet and socialise.
All money raised goes directly towards providing resources for the children. It helps us to finance immediate and longer-term goals. We are most grateful for the support of the Friends and hope that their interest and generosity will continue in the future. The money this body raise makes a significant difference to the provision the children receive
Spring and Summer Information
With a fantastic start to the Spring Term and lots in the pipe line to get excited about it all ground to a halt. We are still working behind the scenes to make sure that when we do go back we can hit the ground running and make the events extra special.
Before we broke up we had an absolutely amazing amount of chocolate donated for the Family Chocolate Bingo Evening and we found it very hard not to start eating it all. As this didn’t go ahead and holding a lot of Easter chocolate we wanted to try and get it back to families within the school as well as giving the children some form of event to keep them occupied for at least a little while. As with many things at the moment we went digital and hosted a free Alphabet Scavenger Hunt on the PTFA Facebook page. We had a remarkable response with over 50 families participating with some weird and wonderful items to show. Thank you to all that joined us, we hope you all enjoyed it.
As for Summer Term events we are still very much planning on running them if we are back and can overcome any social distancing restrictions that may still be in place.
Family Quiz Night - Friday 15th May 5pm
School Disco - Friday 19th June KS1 5.30pm KS2 6.45pm
Summer Fayre - Friday 3rd July 5pm
If these events cannot go ahead we have decided to donate the rest of the chocolate and anything else collected for these events to a worthy local charity and will let you know which one. Any suggestions of charities are welcome.
As most of you know the PTFA helps to fund extra equipment and items for the children as well as trips and extra-curricular activities. What we raise this year helps fund next year’s list and with us so far having a short year with at least one or two events cancelled we will have to look at how much we can give to school for next year. If you feel that you can donate anything to the PTFA it is always really appreciated. Here are the bank details - sort code 30-98-26, account no 01364406 (Harvington 1st School PTFA).
We really hope you are all staying safe and well and look forward to seeing you all when we are back.
Hannah Buckley and Emma Heaton.
