We held two new parents evening this week - one for parents of new Reception children and one for Nursery. Both were very well attended. Important advice was given to help children have a happy and positive start to their school life.
On Tuesday YR visited Nature in Art to experience two workshops and meet real artists. They also visited the gallery to get some ideas about how to present their own artwork! They loved the gardens where they found large metal sculptures - a reindeer's antlers were created with horseshoes and large mini-beasts contained nuts, bolts and exhaust sections.
The workshop staff commented on the outstanding attitudes and behaviour which they thought was fantastic! We were really proud of them for representing Harvington First School so brilliantly!
Today was a 'Dress Down Day' in exchange for a jam jar filled with wrapped sweets. Thank you to everyone who has supported this. Year 5 will be selling the jam jars on their stall at our Very British Fayre on Friday 8th July.
Sports Day picnic menus are now available to collect and should be returned by Friday 1st July.
After school clubs finished this week except for Sports Challenge and Cricket Club - these will continue until week ending 15th July.
Our Year 5 children have been visited by teachers of their new school this week and are now looking forward to attending their induction day on 5th July.
Mrs Fishbourne held a 'Tea & Talk' session today which was attended by several parents.
Children have enjoyed wearing non-uniform today - this was in exchange for a donation for the tombola stall at our Summer Fair on Friday 8th July.
All children have started having cricket coaching this half term with Mr Hancock from Worcestershire Cricket.
On Wednesday, 10 girls from Year Three and Four took part in a football festival at the University of Worcester. The girls enjoyed playing four games of football against other schools and learned lots of new skills in workshops, including how to be a goalie and a referee! They even got to have their hair braided and faces painted. They were also lucky enough to meet real life women football players who play for Aston Villa!
All week we have been preparing our birthday celebrations for the Queen. Each class has either made jam tarts or scones and have been learning about our Queen and the monarchy.
The whole school were able to cook because of the generosity of Tesco Supermarket in Evesham who supplied all the ingredients. Mr Bishop, Ben and Heidi’s Dad, organised all this for us. A huge thank you to Tesco and Mr Bishop. We are very grateful!
On Friday we enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s birthday in school. Each class either sung a song, danced or recited poetry; they were all brilliant! We then enjoyed our jam tarts and scones before singing the Proms songs with great gusto. We finished off by singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the Queen. I am sure she was able to hear us all even though she was in London!
Year 2’s butterflies have hatched today and have been released into the wild! They have been named Queenie and Elizabeth by the children – how appropriate!
Reception Class had a visit from a member of the School Nursing Team on Tuesday who talked to the children about the importance of dental care. They all had a turn using a large scale model toothbrush and teeth! The children asked some fantastic questions such as 'What is it like when it's the first time brushing your teeth on your own?' and 'How does it feel to have a bad tooth?'
Year One have been busy writing letters to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who will be celebrating her official 90th Birthday in June.
As part of Year Two's St Lucia theme, the children have been designing and creating St Lucian fish. They have learned how to sew running stitches and how to sew on buttons for the scales.
KS2 enjoyed taking part in an art day today - there are some superb paintings which have been based on Monet's landscapes.
We are all looking forward to the school discos tonight which have been organised by the PTFA. Nursery and KS1 Disco will be from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and the KS2 Disco from 6.45pm to 8pm. Entry is £1.50 payable on door. There will be drinks, sweets, crisps and glow sticks on sale too. All money raised comes to the school. Thank you for your support.

We have lots of school trips planned for this term - At-Bristol, Avoncroft Museum and Kenilworth Castle to name but a few.
On Thursday Year Two visited Worcester Cathedral. They had a guided tour of the Cathedral, made prayer stones and gruesome gargoyles. They also enjoyed eating their lunch in the Monk's garden. The Bishop of Worcester came to say hello and told Year Two all about his job.
All the children are looking forward to next week's discos kindly organised by the PTFA. Hot dogs for KS2 can be ordered in advance.
The children were visited by Captain Morgan, the pirate, this week! He set them many problem solving activities that were so challenging. The children had a wonderful learning experience. Thank you to all the parents for contributing to this activity and thank you to Mrs Enstone for organising it all.
On Wednesday we were joined by many parents and carers for our Come Dine with Me experience. We hope you enjoyed your lunch!
A number of children have taken up music lessons this term and are learning to play keyboard with Mrs Jefferies and recorder, flute or trumpet with Mr Telford.
Children are being invited to buy a strip of paper for £1 to decorate which will then be used by the Evesham Rotary Club to link The Abbey Bridge to The Workman Bridge. The school will receive half of the profits of the money raised and the remainder will go to the Rotary Club to support youth and school activities in the Vale.
The support for fundraising for this year's school charity, The Midlands Air Ambulance, has been fantastic. We have now raised a fabulous £1083 - thank you to everyone for your generosity!
Our Year 3 children had a most enjoyable day on Tuesday when they took part in a Hinduism workshop within school. The children dressed up, had their faces painted and listened to Hindu stories. They also had the opportunity to buy a decorative diva lamp to take home.
Year 3 also started their swimming lessons this week which will continue for a further 9 weeks.
Children from Reception to Year 5 are taking part in tennis lessons this term led by Mr Spensley.
After school clubs started this week which include handbells, film, eco and play club along with football and summer sports run by Sports Challenge.
On Tuesday our Year 4 class had a fabulous trip to Singers Hill Synagogue to deepen their understanding of the Jewish faith. Afterwards they visited the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery where they explored artefacts relating to Ancient Greece.
Class Catering served Hot Dogs on Tuesday which were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone!
On Wednesday our Sunshine Group led a wonderful Easter service to parents and children.
On Monday our Reception class visited Evesham Library. The children enjoyed looking at all the books and learned how they could join the library too.
On Wednesday Mrs Thorp accompanied four children to Badsey First School where they took part in a gifted and talented maths session.
Year 1 had a fantastic day today at The Cotswold Wildlife Park. The children particularly enjoyed seeing the wolves and lions. The staff gave a very informative talk to the children about the giraffes and rhinoceros they look after at the park.
Also today, Year 3 took part in a netball match here at school against Bengeworth Academy - a fun time was had by all!
