Harvington C of E First and Nursery School

‘Together we love, learn and grow’

Week commencing 17th October 2016

On Monday Reverend Richard led our Harvest Festival Service in the school hall - thank you to everyone who attended. The children brought in some beautifully decorated harvest baskets filled with various goodies which the children later delivered to some members of our village community. We have been overwhelmed by the number of thank you cards and phone calls we have received from local residents for the baskets.

On Tuesday we welcomed a visitor from St Richard's Hospice (this year's chosen school charity) into school to lead an assembly. All the children were then involved in planting over 500 snowdrops in the school grounds. We look forward to seeing them in full bloom next year!

We also held a whole school science day on Tuesday to develop investigation skills. ‘AS Creative’ visited school to complete a series of investigation activities with each year group. Throughout the day each year group took part in a science workshop where they observed, measured and collected results to solve science problems. For the rest of the day the children took part in science investigation activities around school.

A massive thank you to the PTFA who paid for the full cost of this science day.

The ECO Warriors held another meeting and this week's handy tip was 'Sweep up your leaves and put them in a pile for hedgehogs to hide in.'

The children gave their biggest smiles for their school photographs which were taken by Mrs Croft on Wednesday.

On Thursday Reception Class had a visit from the Fire Brigade to continue with their theme 'Occupations - what we want to be when we grow up'. The children were able to explore the fire engine and even dressed up as firefighters!

Two school councillors visited Badsey First School with Mrs Scrivens to take part in a school council meeting. Here the children learned about how other schools organise their school council meetings and develop speaking and listening skills.

The PTFA have arranged school discos tonight - KS1 and Nursery from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and KS2 from 6.45pm to 8.00pm. Entry fee is £1.50. We hope the children have a fantastic time.

We break up for half term today and will re-open on Monday 31st October.
