Letters & Sounds

Nursery rhymes are an important building block in children’s early understanding of literacy and maths. Their rhythmic structure and repeated phrases help to embed language patterns and introduce vocabulary in a playful and social way.

Phonics is a way of teaching reading where your child is taught to read letters or groups of letters by saying the sound(s) they represent. Children can then start to read words by blending the sounds together to make a word.

When are children ready to orally segment? this PDF is to support parents who's children are starting school in September 2020
